This event is 19 and over

Pica is a disease and a musical act, performed while hiding my face behind very friendly Disney-Eyes. There are two movements so far. The first, "Adultery and the American Dream", is about masculinity, in all its tragic, hilarious, and even redemptive expressions. The second, "OMG TMI WTF LOL", is about the Internet, cell phones, and fashion, and more generally about intimacy and self image - it's even funnier than the first movement, but a different kind of tragic.

The act is played and sung, with an acoustic guitar, with big sticky pop hooks, with harmonies that seem to pay little regard to normal key structures and melodies that nonetheless stick in the ear for weeks. The lyrics are clear and difficult and usually funny. The music is simple, poppy, but often jarring.

The goal, all along, has been to make the audience almost start singing along, clapping along, and then see them balk at doing so because it's taking more than one chorus to process their feelings. A couple years into the project, it's working. After every show, at least one person approaches me to tell me, "I like *this* song, because it made me feel *this* way." In a decade as a gigging musician, I have never gotten so much heartfelt feedback to an act. I'm grateful, dedicated, and planning to see this one through wherever it takes me.
